Where and When?

The finals are being held on Saturday 29th June 2019 at Triumph Headquarters at Normandy Way, Hinckley, Leicestershire, LE10 3BZ.

Finalists will be judged and awarded with prizes on the day.

How to get here?

Follow the directional road signs that say “Motorcycle Factory” as you approach the roundabout where Normandy Way, Dodwells Road (A47) and Roston Drive all meet.  The site is within easy reach from the M1, M6 and M69 motorways.

We’ve been told that the postcode for the factory does not work on some sat navs, so please refer to a map before setting off. The google maps link below will take you to the correct location:

Parking will be in the “Main staff car park” – this is the first entrance on the left once you leave the roundabout.

If you have large projects or materials (that you are unable to carry from your car), there will be staff to help guide you to the best entrance to drop off your project. Once you’ve dropped it off, return to the car park to park your car.

Accessible spaces are available – please specify your requirements on the questionnaire. If you require an accessible parking space, please park in the “Factory Visitor’s experience” car park – this is the second on the left.

There will be members of staff available to guide and help you on the day.

When you’ve arrived, please make your way to the factory reception. There will be a person welcome you, book you in and guide you to your stand. All guests and finalists will need to be booked in before heading to the exhibition area.

Each finalist will have their own stand and space. Please let us know on the online form if you have any additional requirements above the equipment we will be providing for you:

  • A table approx. 0.5m x 1.5m
  • A display board approx. 2m x 1m.
  • A power socket

You will not have access to wi-fi, and the signal strength in the area is quite poor, so we would recommend ensuring all your materials are downloaded onto your laptop or tablets before arriving.

Food and refreshments

Lunch will be provided as well as refreshments throughout the day.

We can accommodate reasonable dietary requirement request if informed in advance. We will be sending out a questionnaire shortly.

Dress Code

You will be presenting your projects to our senior judging team, who consist of chief engineers and industry experts, as well as participating in talks and activities. We would suggest you to wear something formal, such as a shirt with a collar, but please make sure you feel comfortable. It is a long day and you will be standing and walking between events for a large proportion of it, so please ensure your clothing, and footwear in particular, is comfortable for you. It is recommended that high heeled shoes with a thin heel are not worn due to uneven surfaces in the factory.

Tips for the judging process on the day

Relax and enjoy the day! You’ve done all the hard work and our judges are really keen to hear you talk about your project with them. (Plus, we’re all really friendly!)

Speak clearly, confidently and logically. Remember, the judges don’t know your project as well as you do, and what may seem obvious to you may not be to them.

It’s not just about what you did well – we all make mistakes and the power of design is learning from these to make things better. What was the design process you used, and if you had to do it all over again, what would you do differently?

Explain how you think your projects can be taken to a mass market. What would you change about the design, materials or processes you used? What was your inspiration for the project and design and what would you do if you had more time to work on your project?

Ask questions! Our judges and volunteers are really keen to meet you and would be more than happy to answer questions and talk to you about their career and backgrounds (It’s trying to get them to stop that’s the hard bit…)

We will have a photographer on site who will be taking photographs and film footage on the day. The materials captured will be used as part of our publicity materials and press releases in the future, and may be used on social media.

If you are not happy for yourself or your project to be photgraphed highlight this on the questionaire.

You are welcome to bring your friends and family to the event. Please complete the questionaire to inform us how many guest you would like to bring and any dietary requirments thet may have.
